A major setback to getting older and/or working is the ability to learn in school again. Your best bet for going to school is when you’re younger and enrolled at college or university to pursue some degree course, but when you’re much older or working, going back to school is not so easy again if not nearly impossible. Many working adults still want to go back to school today, or rather attain some academic qualifications that will enhance their work experience and career promotions or monthly salaries, but the demands of working from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. has made their educational ambition tough to achieve. Although all hope is not lost, it is still very possible to work and learn with relative ease if you’d apply the following advice:
NOUN: If you’re in Nigerian or any other country of the world, the National Open University can be very helpful to your dream of learning while working. The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has proved very helpful for many Nigerian workers, and they have managed to attain several educational degrees through the open policy of NOUN to work and learn. Many entertainment artistes – music and movie stars, including federal workers in the military, police, NSDC, and other individual personalities have enrolled and passed out of their NOUN academic programmes without any effect on their day jobs. The NOUN programme is largely developed for workers who desire to learn and work without quitting one for the other.
Night School: In the USA and many other countries, there are night schools that are designed for busy workers to attend for their education. You may consider getting enrolled in a night school if one is available in your area, and it’d prove very helpful to your academic dreams while you work. Many of these night schools run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. when workers have closed for work and returned home, and it has proved very effective in helping many people to earn a degree while still working full-time.
Personal tutorial: You may not believe this, but a personal tutor or a group tutorial might be very useful for busy workers. A personal tutor will come to teach you when you have the time and a group tutorial might hold at scheduled times when the candidates for a particular exam might hold group lectures together. Look out for one in your area or put one together for others and you’d be glad at how it will further your work and learn initiatives.
Weekend school: Weekend schools are very good for those aiming to work and learn at the same time. The weekend is a free period for work, and it affords you the opportunity to attend weekend schools or weekend tutorials. Search for a weekend school or weekend group tutorial to attend; and then, most part-time students attend weekend school and you too can if you’re willing enough.
Online degrees: It is now possible to acquire online degrees from accredited universities and polytechnics without any hassles. Online degrees are gaining wider acceptability among several employers and government agencies, and it has proved a great solution to work and learn dilemma. You can register online with any desired university and pay the required tuition for any preferred course programme; and you can have access to interactive study materials which you can study to prepare for your exams.
